ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih intends to construct 2 continuous casting machines for the manufacture of slabs.
The project could start after the machines Nos. 2 and 3 are constructed. By April 2019 the construction and commissioning should have been complete. As the result, some 4 million tons of steel will be produced using the continuous cast technology.
“We plan to finish construction of the machine No. 3 in Q3 2018, and in Q4 2018 – machine No. 2. By April 2019 both machines will have reached the project capacity of 1.4 million tons each”, the company projects and programs manager Alexander Zozulya said.
After that AMKR will modernize the machine No. 1, which has been operating since 2011, increasing its capacity from 1.2 to 1.4 million tons of billets per year. The new machines will produce billets with the size of 150×150 and 130×130.
“Some 3 million tons of semi-finished products, manufactured by the continuous casting machines, will be turned into wire rod and rebars, and some 0.8-1 million tons exported. We are also modernizing the mill No. 4, which produces 80×80 billets for rebars. But in December 2018 some 1.1 million tons of rebars will be produced of new billets. This will be products of another quality, with lower prime cost”, Zozulya added. (Ukrainian metal)
