In Kirovograd region, situation at the Vostochniy Mining and Processing Works mines is getting critical, the chairman of the Independent Miners’ Union of Ukraine Mikhail Volynets has said.
According to him, due to the cut of electricity by Ukrenergo, the operation of the ventilation and water pumping at the mines stopped, in particular, at the Smolinskaya mine.
According to the local sources, lower horizon of the mine is already flooded and the full flooding is expected within several hours. This threatens with radioactively polluted water entering ground waters, which could result in an ecological catastrophe in the region. (Ukrainian metal)
