On October 12, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih launched the process of decommissioning coke-oven batteries Nos. 1 and 2.
They are the oldest at the plant.
Four batteries will remain at the plant, with only two working – Nos. 5 and 6 – which last week were put into operation following a forced shut down after the full-scale Russian invasion in February.
The coke-oven batteries Nos. 1 and 2 with the combined capacity of 3 thousand tons of bulk coke per day have been operating for almost 50 years and during all the months of the martial law.
The construction of new batteries Nos. 5 and 6 was completed in 2018. They will allow improving product quality, increasing the heat strength of coke to 55-60% and decreasing dust and gas emission. When the old batteries are decommissioned, by-product coke manufacture emissions will decrease by 37%.
Around 120 employees worked at the coke-oven batteries Nos. 1 and 2. They will be offered new jobs. (Ukrainian metal)
