Yuzhniy Mining and Processing Works has stopped sinter manufacture having shut down the blast furnace shop at Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Works following repair from late October 2019 till May 2020 and the switch to using iron ore concentrate.
The decision to shut down sinter manufacture was taken in September 2020. In February, the company will start dismantling the machinery, buildings and structures.
UGOK used to supply 95% of its sinter to DMK.
Having closed the shop, UGOK has decreased air pollution by 96%.
Instead of the sinter shop, the company intends to construct a pelletizing factory to produce DR pellets with the iron content of over 67%. (Ukrainian metal)
