Ferrexpo, controlling Poltava and Yeristovo Mining and Processing Works, is mulling an opportunity to ship iron ore raw materials to China in container trains.

“This is interesting for us, as thus we diversify deliveries. There must be different directions. If nothing has been shipped to China in containers so far, why don’t we try it”, Ferrexpo logistics manager Vitaliy Oleynik said.

The railroad tariff should be profitable and not higher than sea tariff. Now railroad container transportation is 1.5 times more expensive.

One train with 40 containers could transport around 3 thousand tons of pellets, while Ferrexpo ships 0.5-1 million tons each month.

In January-September, Ferrexpo produced 8.1 million tons of pellets and shipped 6.96 million tons, including 1.7 million tons to the EU. (Ukrainian metal)
