In PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih, a complex of close loop BOF gas cooling for blast furnaces Nos. 4, 5, and 6 was commissioned. The company cost as of UAH 192 million.

Within the project, the framework of existing pumping station No. 2-BIS was repaired, three expansion tank-accumulators, nine high-performance pumping units, six water-air heat exchangers, pipelines, valves and fittings were installed.

As a result, the consumption of chemically treated deaerated water for evaporation will decrease from 672 to 200 thousand cubic meters per year. For its supply, not 15 pumps are used as before, but 9 – their power consumption is reduced from 792 to 200 kilowatts, which allows saving electricity significantly. In addition, the life of hoods and BOF flues will be longer owing to decreased concentration of oxygen dissolved in circulating water and use of a corrosion inhibitor. A decrease of unplanned equipment downtime is also expected. The total economic effect of the project will reach UAH 100 million per year.

The close loop BOF gas-cooling complex was commissioned as the part of a large-scale investment program implemented at PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih. The works at BFs Nos. 4-6 were carried out in 2012-2017. The reconstruction of BFs Nos. 1-3 with construction of new GCPs will have been completed by the end of 2021. The total cost of the reconstruction will be over $100 million. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
