Because of the salary debts two miners from Lviv region have gone on a hunger strike. For three days they have been living in the conference hall of Lvivugol, sleeping on chairs and only drinking water.

Their colleagues promise to join them and even block roads if they are not paid their due.

According to trade unions of the Stepnaya and Mezhdurechanskaya mines, about 2.5 thousand people are employed there. None has so far received the full salary for September.

Previous strikes at the regional administration and the Verkhovna Rada failed, so the miners decided to draw attention to the issue this way.

The miners’ main demand is to clear salary debts as soon as possible.

According to the regional chairman Oleg Sinyutka, the government has provided 23 million UAH to clear the debts. But that’s only one tenth of the amount needed. (Ukrainian metal)
