In the town of Ukrainsk (Donetsk region) miners from the Ukraina mine of the state enterprise Selidovugol have made a preliminary strike and are preparing for mass actions because of the non-payment of salary.

“On January 15 the first shift of the miners didn’t come to the work, a part of the second and third shifts supported them. This was a one-day action, we wanted to remind of ourselves, as the situation is critical. If the salary is not paid in full, the major strike will begin”, Ivan Chukov, the chairman of the local union organization of the Independent Miners Union of Ukraine, reported.

According to him, the miners have not received 35% of the November 2017 salary, nor anything for December 2017, even though coal is mined and sold.

At present the mine employs some 1600 people, while earlier it was 1900.

The mine is situated 40 km from Donetsk.

“We’re operating near the zone of engagement. This is a state mine, and the state is responsible for the situation”, Chukov noted. (Ukrainian metal)
