The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has returned to the U.S.-based Avellana Gold international mining company the previously withdrawn special permit for the development of Muzhievo polymetallic ore deposit in Zakarpattia, the west of Ukraine, as well as confidential geological information about the field, according to the company’s press service.
“The General Prosecutor Office has returned to Avellana Gold a special permit for polymetal mining at Muzhievo deposit owned by an American investor, as well as confidential geological information about the deposit,” the press service said in a statement.
As reported, in late October, the law enforcers raided the premises of Carpathian Mining Company, which was previously acquired by the Avellana Gold Ltd. On site, the company employees were told that it was a search conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office as part of criminal proceedings against the previous owners of Carpathian Mining Company.
Avellana Gold designed a polymetal mining project for the region in which it planned to invest about $100 million.
In 2016, Avellana Gold bought Carpathian Mining Company, Private JSC and Western Exploration company, LLC, which hold special permits for geological exploration with pilot development and extraction of polymetallic ores at Muzhievo deposit.
In late March, the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine announced that Avellana Gold was eliminating the negative consequences from the activities of previous subsoil users, and planned to conduct a reclamation of the area in 2017. (UNIAN/Ukrainian metal)
