Interpipe Steel is pondering the possibility of importing scrap from the USA.
According to the company CEO Fadi Khraibe, scrap situation in Ukraine is complex, with a negative forecast.
“At present the market is balanced. In November it will change. In Q1 2018 there will be a shortage of scrap and we will have to import it”, he said.
The company is already importing scrap in small volumes, but the main difficulty is that there are not many sources.
“We import some scrap from Eastern Europe. And we’re also thinking of importing from US, why not? Turkey buys over 1 million tons of American scrap. But still it will be much more expensive than Ukrainian raw materials. Actually, it’s strange that Ukrainian scrap is exported to Turkey, while we have to buy in the USA”, Khraibe said.
