On September 4, Belarus Iron and Steel Works smelted the 50-millionth ton of steel.
Each year the jubilee tons are reached sooner thanks to the reconstruction at the works. The 20-millionth ton was produced in 2004, 20 years after the production started. In early 2013 the works produced the 40-millionth ton. In 4.5 years BMZ produced over 10 million tons of steel. Because of the modernization the plant’s capacities increased 2.5-fold.
BMZ-produced metal in 33 years would be enough to construct 6849 Eiffel Towers, while to transport so much steel 111 thousand BelAZs with the maximum lifting capacity of 450 tons would be needed. (Ukrainian metal)
