ArcelorMittal Temirtau intends to increase output of steel to 5 million tons by 2021 and start selling it in EAEU and Central Asia.
The company CEO Paramjit Kahlon believes these countries are the most attractive to AMT.
“We have found right markets for us to sell our products. We no longer orient to the Black Sea region, we no longer look at the Far East, we don’t sell through the port of Vladivostok, nor do we sell through the land route in China. We look at local manufacturers”, he said.
And by local he means not only Kazakhstan, but also Russia, Belarus, and Armenia.
“We also pay more attention to the Central Asia countries – Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. Everything that ends with “stan”, he added. “We do ship to Iran, but not in such quantities as previously, as they have unbelievable customs duties”.
This year AMT intends to produce 4.2 million tons of steel and 4.5 million tons in 2018. In 2016 the company produced 4 million tons, the largest volume since 2004. (Ukrainian metal)
