Ukrzaliznytsia failed to provide the necessary throughput of the repaired Kamysh-Zarya – Volnovakha route for the stable operation of the Mariupol companies.
On June 2-6 the daily throughput of the route was 16 cargo trains, far below the 24 trains promised by Ukrzaliznytsia.
Thus Metinvest group had to look for alternative, and more expensive ways of delivery.
“One of the ways out was the purchase of limestone on foreign markets with sea transportation to the Mariupol port. Soon the port will received the first ever batch of limestone for Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works – the Greek Supramax-class Navios Hios with 52.2 thousand tons of limestone”, the company CEO Yuri Zinchenko said.
This is the first trial batch of limestone from UAE. In case everything goes well, Metinvest will consider buying some 50-55 thousand tons of limestone a month abroad. (Ukrainian metal)
