PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih hosted the meeting devoted to development of strategic approaches for improvement of the ecosystem of Ingul river basin within the Program to support the green modernization of the Ukrainian economy being implemented by German Society for International Cooperation “GIZ”.
The main objective of the informative meeting was to find the efficient technologies and conduct feasibility study of their implementation aimed at reducing the natural and technogenic pollution of high-mineralized mine, open-pit and drainage water before discharging to the water bodies.
The representatives of the city industrial companies: KZhRK, CGOK, Sukhaya Balka, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih and Dniepropetrovsk Region Council, Federation of Employers of Dniepropetrovsk region, environment organizations, Environment division of Kriviy Rih City Executive Committee, project team of DMT Consulting discussed potential solutions of the pressing issue for the city – reduction of industrial load on the Kryvbas water basins. Kriviy Rih iron ore basin utilizes up to 12 million cubic meters of mine water annually.
Socially responsible companies, such as ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih, make efforts to minimize the industrial impact on the area water resources. The company uses part of pumped out mine water in the production processes to water mine faces, during mining operations, for dust laying on the process roads, fully covering the cost of mine water flushing and dilution.
