Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works has started constructing a new continuous-casting machine No. 4.
The machine is expected to be put into operation in two years, providing for 380 additional jobs, according to the company CEO Yuri Zinchenko.
The contract for construction with Primetals Technology (Austria) was concluded in September 2015. The new machine will allow the company to produce steel. At present it has excessive capacities of pig iron, which it has to export instead of converting to steel.
“The new machine will produce 2.5 million tons of cast slabs per year”, Zinchenko said.
Investments will total $150 million. (Ukrainian metal)
