ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih plans to stop using natural gas altogether in 2 years replacing it with the pulverized coal mix.

On October 12, the Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman participated in the putting into operation of the PCI machine in the blast furnace No. 9 at AMKR.

“We’re injecting some 40 tons per hour, that’s around 120 kg per ton of pig iron and no natural gas per ton at this blast furnace”, he said.

According to him, the cost of the PCI unit implementation is $60 million. It has already allowed saving $15 million and next year will save $30 million more.

Pulverized coal will be used in the blast furnace No. 1 as well.

According to a company representative, this year it will consume 680 million cubic meters of gas against 1 billion cubic meters earlier. (Ukrainian metal)
