Kola MMC (Norilsk Nickel affiliate) has completed repair of worn-out sections of the gas duct from metallurgical shop to sulfuring acid production department of refining shop. Total of 15 sections of the gas duct were replaced with the total lengths of 293 m.
Pechengastroy, Kola MMC subsidiary, was responsible for replacement of gas duct segments. About 70 contractor’s specialists were engaged in the repair. Two special cranes were used to dismantle the old section and erect the new structures.
New sections are made of high quality 10 mm steel with inner lining of polyisobutylene (special acid proofing material). This will ensure stable operation of the gas duct for further 5-10 years provided its proper use.
Section-by-section repair of gas duct without interruption of production process is in progress for several years in a row. In total 92 sections are to be replaced. As of today, over 65% of gas duct with the total length of about 1.3 km was replaced. (Norilsk Nickel/Ukrainian metal)
