In 2015 thermal power stations received 8.5 million tons of coal from the ATO zone. That’s 10 times more than has been imported from the South African Republic, and 13 times more than from Russia.

Without Donbass the Ministry of energy and coal industry will not be able to provide enough coal to TPSs.

“Imports will not be enough. The ports can only take 400 thousand tons of coal per month, while we need 800 thousand tons. We cannot help buying anthracite. If the railroad connection breaks, in a month or two our TPS will feel the anthracite deficiency”, said the Center of world economy and international relationships power programs director Valentin Zemlyansky.

7 out of 14 Ukrainian thermal power stations operate on anthracite coal, mined in Donbass. (Ukrainian metal)
