Metinvest could lose an important metal market in South Asia – Pakistan. On January 13 the National tariff committee of Pakistan decided to impose preventive duties on cold-rolled steel from Ukraine.

The duties will be implemented against two major manufacturers – Zaporizhstal (18.92% of the customs cost) and Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works (19.4%). Both companies are a part of Metinvest, which thus not only would not increase its share on the market of Pakistan, but could even lose it.

Investigation on cold-rolled steel imports from Ukraine started in July 2015. It was initiated by the major steel manufacturer Aisha Steel Mills Limited Karachi.

In 2014 Ukraine supplied some 18 thousand tons of cold-rolled steel to Pakistan valued at $10 million, while in January-October 2015 – just 5 thousand tons at $2.2 million. (Ukrainian metal)
