The state enterprise Ukrpromvneshexpertiza says ferrous scrap exports in 2016 will reach 1-1.1 million tons, if the quotations are cancelled and duties increase.
“Chinese steel billets in Turkish ports cost $240 per ton, while scrap imported from the same ports costs $195. Cost price of smelting scrap into billets is around $100, and with such a difference it would be profitable for Turkish metal companies to buy Chinese billets and roll them, than to import scrap”, says the company marketing department director Yuri Dobrovolsky.
