For the past ten years Ukraine has been #2 steel ingots and semi-finished products exporter, according to WorldSteel, #1 being Russia.
Russia’s annual exports of these products reach 13-16 million tons, while those from Ukraine – 9-12 million. The third place has been occupied by China, Japan and Brazil, with the former, being the largest world metal manufacturer and exporter, drastically decreasing steel semis and ingots exports: from 7.2 million tons in 2005 to 7 in 2014. Japan and Brazil, on the other hand, have increased their exports – by 30% and 7% respectively.
The TOP-5 steel semis and ingots exporters of 2014: Russia (14.2 million, up by 3% YoY), Ukraine (9.3 million, down by 15%), Brazil (6.3 million, up by 19%), Japan (5.3 million, down by 12%) and Great Britain (3.5 million tons, up by 1% YoY). These 5 countries account for 71% of the world semis trade.
Brazil’s steel exports for 78% consist of semis and ingots. In Russia it’s 50%, in Ukraine – 43%, in Great Britain – 41% and in Japan – 13%. (Ukrainian metal)
