The Federation of Metal Manufacturers of Ukraine has requested ferrous scrap export limits in the second half of 2015.

The trade association reportedly contacted the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine and cited a “major shortage of scrap metal on the Ukrainian market and the threat of stoppage at some mining and metal companies” as the reasons to request the restrictions.

Ukraine typically makes more than 32 million metric tons of steel each year, although due primarily to conflict in its eastern region that borders Russia its production dropped by 17% in 2014, falling to 27 million metric tons.
