Zaporizhstal Integrated Iron and Steel Works, after a large scale upgrading, put into operation a complex of new equipment sinter machine No.1, high tech gas cleaning system with 2 powerful electrical precipitators, exhauster section and compressed air plant.

The ecological effect is at the level of 10% dust and gas emission into atmosphere of total emissions quantity. The investment volume put in this project makes up UAH 240 million.

High ecological specifications of the new production complex are guaranteed with complete automation of all the processes and with the modern system of gas removal and gas cleaning. The system provides concentration of dust at the outlet of the unit for at most 50 mg/m3, the absorbers contribute to reduction of SO2 concentration in exhaust gases up to 400 mg/m3, which meets the requirements of European norms. The efficiency of the new object consists of dust emission reduction for 240 tons per year (about 70%), sulphur dioxide (SO2) for 206 tons per year (about 30%).
Mr. Rostislav Shurma, general director of Zaporizhstal, said that “Putting sinter machine No.1 with new gas cleaning system into operation is a milestone event not only for the works but also for the whole region. We really want to change the ecological situation in Zaporozhye for the better, and intentionally invest funds into modern ecological equipment”.

The new gas cleaning system includes two absorbers, fume laden and clean gas mains, control and monitoring system for determination of hazardous substances content in exhaust gases. The electrical precipitators of the gas-cleaning system carry out cleaning of sinter gas by dry method; it permits to return back to production process about 6 thousand tons per year of trapped iron bearing production waste and simultaneously to reduce environmental dust emissions. The new gas-cleaning system of sinter machine No.1 at Zaporizhstal does not have any other analogues system in Ukraine. (SteelGuru)
