NRCU cites Mr. Serhiy Bilenky, Deputy Industrial Policy Minister, as saying that Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises may face problems with the export of steel products after 2015 due to a gradual reduction in supplies to Turkey.
Mr. Bilenky said “We are currently supplying a significant part of steel products to Turkey. Turkey has been actively developing its production capacity and no later than in 2014 our exports to Turkey will fall almost to zero.”
Mr. Bilenky emphasized that the European market would be closed for the export of Ukrainian steel products.
He said “We recently had a meeting of the contact group on steel between Ukraine and the European Union. The Europeans clearly hinted that we would hardly sell our vacant volumes on the EU markets and they will apply the appropriate protective measures”. He also noted that it would be necessary to seek export opportunities in the Middle East. (NRCU)
