According to the data issued by metal trading enterprise Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company, in the first half of this year Ukraine consumed 2.93 million tons of rolled steel products, up by 36.2% YoY.
In June Ukrainian consumption of rolled steel products decreased by 7.7% MoM and rose by 26.9% YoY. In H1 this year, the share of imports in the domestic rolled steel product market amounted to 20%, up from 12.8% YoY.
The biggest increase was seen in the consumption of angles, rising by 49.4% YoY in H1 2010. Meanwhile, rebar consumption, which saw a rise of 2% YoY in January to April, increased by 11.5% YoY in January to June this year and rose by 8% MoM and by more than 50% YoY. The consumption of cold-rolled sheet in June this year increased by 13.8% MoM and by 53.1% YoY.
During the first half of this year, UGMK noted the increase of the share of ‘other rolled steel products’ in Ukraine’s total volume of rolled steel product consumption to 36.9% from 25.5% MoM mainly due to the rise of 5.5% in the share of round billet, the increase of 1.3% in the share of square billet and the rise of 1.2% in the share of round bar.
At the same time, during the period in question, UGMK noted a significant decrease of 7% in the share of hot-rolled steel and a drop of 1.9% in the share of rebar.
In January to June this year, Ukraine’s biggest consumers of rolled steel were the metal trade sector, shipments to which amounted to 28.3% of total rolled steel product deliveries, followed by the pipe sector, with its share of overall consumption in the domestic rolled steel market amounting to 26.2%, and machine building, with the share of 17.9%.
