According to the data issued by the Ukrainian Association of Metal Traders, in the Q1 of 2010 the country rolled steel products consumption registered an increase of 8.8% YoY to approximately 1.196 million tons.
Accordingly, in Q1 this year Ukrainian pipe making companies increased purchases of domestic and imported rolled products by 3.2% YoY to 330,664 tons, local construction companies cut purchases by 36.8% YoY to 10,427 tons, while hardware producers raised their purchases by 55.7% YoY to 111,081 tons. Furthermore, Ukrainian steel traders including the smaller companies increased their purchases of domestic and imported rolled steel products by 14.3% YoY to 362,768 tons, machine-building companies raised their purchases by 72.1% YoY to 237,182 tons while mining and metallurgical companies decreased their purchases by 45% YoY to 111,135 tons.
In the Q1 2010:
1. Traders share in the total rolled steel consumption volume in the Ukrainian domestic market amounted to 30%.
2. The share of pipe making companies amounted to 28%.
3. The share of machine-building companies reached 20%.
4. The share of mining and metallurgical companies amounted to 9%.
5. The share of hardware producers was also 9%.
6. The share of construction companies stood at 1%.
