It is reported that Ukraine has exported 0.97 million tonnes steel products to China in the H1 of this year up by 9000% from 0.011 million tonnes in the same period of last year.
The huge price difference is analyzed to be the driver behind this export jump as the price of steel slabs is posted at USD 333 per tonne on Chinese market but that is only USD 255 per tonne in Ukraine.
However, Ukraine this steel export to China only takes up a little part of its steel output. Meanwhile, its steel export to US accumulated at 2.86 million tonnes in 2008 down by 70%YoY and that to EU also fell by 50%. Further more, its sales volume on the domestic market tumbled by 60% in H1. (SteelGuru)
