Kazakhstan: country ranks among top-15 global gold producers

Prospects for developing the gold mining industry and attracting investment were discussed at the VII Forum of Gold Producers of Kazakhstan.

The event was held as part of the Astana Mining & Metallurgy 2026 Congress and brought together representatives of businesses, industry associations, investors, and experts.

Opening the forum, Chairman of the Industry Committee Azamat Panbayev noted that gold mining remained a strategically vital industrial sector and made a significant contribution to the country’s economy.

He said that Kazakhstan had a substantial mineral resource base. The country’s state register lists 374 gold deposits with combined reserves of 2,369 tons. In 2025, five new deposits with reserves of approximately 98 tons of gold were registered.

According to the World Gold Council, Kazakhstan is the world’s 14th largest gold producer. Last year, the country produced 71.2 tons of refined gold.

Investment activity in the sector continues to grow. In 2025, investment in precious metals production reached 99 billion tenge, a 38% YoY increase. (Qazinform)
