Czech Republic: steel consumption down in Q1 2024

In January-March, steel consumption in the Czech Republic decreased by 130 thousand tons YoY, to 1.37 million tons, due to low demand, because of high energy-carriers prices, high inflation and uncertain geopolitical situation caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

At the same time, steel consumption grew from the historical low of 1.23 million tons in Q4 2023.

Raw steel production in Q1 fell by more than 300 thousand tons, to 642 thousand tons.

Steel exports dropped by 200 thousand tons, to 830 thousand tons, one of the lowest results since 2009. (Ukrainian metal)
