Uzbekistan plans to stop regulating the prices of coal. This decision is outlined in a government resolution of Uzbekistan. The country intends to abandon state control over coal prices, a change that is linked to a recent resolution by the Cabinet of Ministers regarding increases in electricity and gas tariffs.
At present, coal is categorized as a socially important commodity, with its price regulated by the state when sold directly to individuals, government institutions and thermal power plants. The Interdepartmental Commission on Tariffs, under the Cabinet of Ministers, reviews and approves these prices at least once a year. The retail price of coal products, as approved by the Interdepartmental Commission, is set for sale to the public through coal warehouses.
The Ministry of Energy, along with other agencies, has been tasked to propose wholesale and retail prices based on market principles within one month. In 2023, Uzbekistan’s coal production increased by 15.5% YoY, reaching over 6 million tons. (Uzreport)
