The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is promoting energy efficiency in the steel industry of Uzbekistan by supporting the operation Tashkent Pipe Works.
A loan of $15 million will help the company launch manufacture of straight-seam pipes (LSAW) and decrease output of spiral-seam pipes (SSAW).
The new welding technique required much less energy and improves pipe durability. The project will also allow decreasing CO2 emission by more than 1100 tons. (Ukrainian metal)
