Poland expects to receive the first train with Ukrainian coal this week and intends to increase imports in the future.
According to Michal Dworczyk, the prime minister’s office head, the supply of coal from Ukraine to Poland is the act of solidarity of Kyiv with Warsaw, as Poland uses more coal in its energy system than Ukraine.
“During the first stage, Ukraine provided a quota of 100 thousand tons of coal for Poland. The first trains are expected to arrive this week,” Dworczyk said.
At the same time, he hopes that Poland will receive more coal from Ukraine.
“There are a lot of factors that affect this. But when we spoke with the President Zelensky and the Prime Minister Shmyhal during the Prime Minister Morawiecki’s visit to Kyiv on September 9, it was said that when the energy situation in Ukraine allowed, additional quotas for the coal exports to Poland would be provided,” he added.
