Ukraine: Russia to pass off stolen metal as its own

Russia is stealing metal products on occupied territories of Ukraine and after that passes off them as its own and tries to sell them.

According to the chairman of the Metallurgists of Ukraine Federation Sergey Belenkiy, it is unknown, who much metal has been stolen, but Mariupol warehouses stocked metal worth hundreds of millions.

“Hundred million tons of metal valued at hundred million dollars. It is difficult to say how much was taken away. Maybe Russia will try to pass it off as of Russian origin or try selling to customers who don’t care for the origin. But Metinvest, as the owner of the metal stolen, monitors all the processes, intends to pursue these pirates and has already taken measures on international sites,” he said.

He doubts Russia will use the stolen metal for its own needs.

“Russia has excess metal capacities. It’s inexpedient to use stolen metal. They will try to sell it,” Belenkiy added. (Ukrainian metal)
