At present, Ukrainian metal enterprises operate at the 10% of the pre-war level.
According to the co-owner of ISD Sergey Taruta, the Ukrainian metal industry is half dead.
“It’s impossible to arrange shipments from Zaporizhstal. I’m not sure about AMKR. Situation with Avdiivka Coke was very critical. Only Avdiivka coke could be provided. The rest could be received from AMKR or Bagley. But Bagley needs coal. The problem with coke, when Avdiivka suspended operation, became acute. Now the level of operation of all metal enterprises is 10% of what was before the war. But it’s impossible to ship even this. There is no domestic market, no state construction program, no orders from the state,” he said.
He added, that Azovstal and Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works were shut down, with the former completely destroyed and the latter badly damaged.
“They are trying to launch a blast furnace there. But I don’t think the occupiers will succeed, but they will destroy machinery. This is a very bad situation for the metal industry,” Taruta said.
He believes that Azovstal will have to be rebuilt from scratch. (Ukrainian metal)
