ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih invested UAH 389.2 million in environment protection in January-June. Every year, the company allocates funds for implementation of major investment projects with environment component, including repair of fixed assets intended for environment protection purposes.
This year, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih continues reconstruction of sinter plant No. 2 to reduce dust emissions. Modernization of sinter production is a priority task, as the share of these production facilities is about 75% in total amount of emissions. Reconstruction of gas cleaning equipment of sinter machines Nos. 1, 2 and 3 from sintering zones and tail areas of these units is the key environmental project. By now, reconstruction of gas cleaning plant of the first sinter machine and tail areas of sinter machines Nos. 1 and 2 has already been completed, modern Italian electrostatic precipitators Ekoplant have been installed.
In general, four out of six sinter machines of the plant have already been modernized: Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6. As a result, dust emissions decreased by an average of 80% from each sinter machine. Near-term plans include reconstruction of sinter machines Nos. 2 and 3. Currently, 90% of equipment was delivered to the company and work on installation of electrostatic precipitator on the second sinter machine were started. 60% of equipment was delivered for work on the third sinter machine that will start until the end of the year.
Cost of scheduled preventive maintenance of environmental equipment has already exceeded UAH 19 million this year. The main projects include restoration of dust exhausting and technical facilities, pipelines and slurry lines of crushing plant of mining department, repair of slurry pipelines and cleaning of sludge collectors of sludge handling facility of ore beneficiation plants, as well as repair of gas cleaning equipment of steam and gas shop. At the same time, power equipment is being repaired – water line of water supply circuit from pumping station No. 9 to rolling shop No. 3 of steel plant was replaced in H1.
Since 2006, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih has invested over UAH 7 billion in environment protection purposes. Over 130 highly efficient gas-cleaning plants have been constructed and revamped within this period. From the date of the plant privatization, total air emissions were reduced by 42.7%, wastewater discharge – by 78.4% and waste disposal – by 23.7%
In the next 3-4 years, the company is going to implement significant investment projects, including allocation of $700 million for environmental purposes, which are an integral part of key investment projects, such as, for example, construction of a new pellet plant. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
