Severstal intends to decrease CO and CO2 (greenhouse gas) emissions by implementing a new technique to process iron ore concentrate at Olenegorsk Mining and Processing Works.
The ecological effect will be reached by increasing the quality of the iron ore concentrate produced at Olkon. High iron content allows decreasing the usage of fluxes (limestone) in by-product coke, sinter and blast furnace manufacture as well as solid fuel (coke breeze) expenses.
The drop in coke breeze usage results in CO emission decrease.
“According to preliminary estimations, CO emission will decrease by 4.4 thousand tons per year and greenhouse gas emission by 35.9 thousand tons”, Severstal Russian Steel CEO Yevgeniy Vinogradov declared. (Ukrainian metal)
