Russian metals and mining group Mechel keeps plans to raise coal output in 2019 despite a 16% reduction in January-June, the company said in a statement on August 15.

“Growth of coal production volumes will continue in the coming periods. Despite the planned reduction in production in the first quarter of 2019, coal production will exceed last year’s figures,” CEO Oleg Korzhov was quoted as saying.

In June Korzhov said that Mechel planned to raise coal production to 20-20.5 million tons in 2019 from 18.81 million tons in 2018 and keep steel output flat at 3.8 million tons. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
