Ukraine: coking coal output at state mines up in H1 2019

In January-June state coalmining enterprises decreased power-generating coal extraction by 24.5%, to 1.45 million tons.

According to the Ministry of the energy and coal industry, state mines increased coking coal output by 65.5%, to 399.5 thousand tons.

As a whole, state mines decreased coal extraction by 14.5%, to 1.85 million tons.

In H1 coal enterprises of Ukraine decreased coal output by 7% YoY, to 15.35 million tons, including that of coking coal by 17.3%, to 2.65 million tons, and power-generating coal by 4.5%, to 12.7 million tons.

In particular, Donetsk region mines extracted 5.05 million tons of coal (-13%), Lugansk – 203.7 thousand tons (-27.8%), Dniepropetrovsk – 9.42 million tons (-1.4%), Lviv – 648.6 thousand tons (-19.2%) and Volyn region mines – 27.9 thousand tons (-52%).

In June coal output decreased by 2.5% YoY, to 2.53 million tons. (Ukrainian metal)
