Ukraine: UZ to double coal, iron ore and ferrous metals transportation

In case railroad transportation to the currently uncontrolled territories of Lugansk and Donetsk regions is resumed, Ukrzaliznytsia intends to have doubled the volumes of coal, iron ore and ferrous metals by 2030.

According to the company strategy for 2019-2030, the export of ferrous metals will grow by 31.7% compared with 2018, to 21.809 million tons under the basic scenario and to 26.172 million tons under the optimistic one. Local transportation will increase by 19.6%, to 5.645 million tons (5.844 million tons).

Exports of iron ore will grow by 16.4%, to 43.909 million tons and local transportation by 33.3%, to 37.518 million tons. Under the optimistic scenario the export transportation will increase by 96.9%, to 74.446 million tons, and local – by 54%, to 43.322 million tons.

At the same time the local transportation of coal will drop by 34.1%, to 23.767 million tons, while imports – by 8.5%, to 19.236 million tons. Under the optimistic scenario the local transportation will decrease by 2.9%, to 34.998 million tons, and imports – by 61.9%, to 8 million tons. (Ukrainian metal)
