Ukraine: coal output down in January-May 2019

In January-May Ukraine mined 12.812 million tons of coal, down by 7.8% YoY.

According to the Ministry of energy and coal industry, the output of coking coal dropped by 21.5%, to 2.117 million tons, and of power-generating coal by 4.5%, to 10.695 million tons.

In May coal mining decreased by 1.9%, to 2.6 million tons.

The ministry-managed enterprises in 5 months produced 1.6 million tons of coal, down by 13.6%, including 315.9 thousand tons of coking coal, up by 45.6%, and 1.284 million tons of power-generating coal, down by 21.5%.

Mines of Donetsk region in January-May extracted 4.193 million tons of coal, down by 14.6%, Lugansk – 183.8 thousand tons, down by 23.2%, Dniepropetrovsk – 7.825 million tons, down by 2.5%, Lviv – 584.9 thousand tons, down by 12.4%, and Volyn region mines – 24.7 thousand tons, down by 51.2%.
