Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works’ (MMK) hot-rolled products Mill 2000 achieved its maximum annual production rate in 2018, for the second time since its launch, breaking the 6 million ton mark for production of hot-rolled products.

The previous record was set at the end of 2016, when the annual output of the mill reached 5.948 million tons of hot-rolled steel. In 2018, the figure was 6.002 million tons.

MMK’s most productive rolling mill is located in the sheet-rolling shop No. 10. This is one of the most powerful and modern mills in Russia. The mill’s equipment makes it possible to produce the full range of MMK steel grades. Sheet width varies from 760 mm to 1,830 mm. The mill produces thousands of different products for various industries including pipes, construction, and machinery manufacturing and represents the widest product mix at MMK. It produces marine and structural steel grades, as well as rolled products, which are subsequently made of automotive sheets.

The mill was commissioned in 1994 and renovated in the mid-2000s. Within the framework of the renovations, a fourth heat-treating furnace was built, efficiency was increased and equipment was upgraded. As a result, the mill now produces a larger assortment of products with improved mechanical properties. In addition, the automation of the unit has been updated, which has made it possible to fully automate the control of the mill. In recent years, the mill has been operating at full capacity. In 2015, the unit hit a milestone, producing 100 million tons of hot-rolled products. (MMK/Ukrainian metal)
