Deputy chairman on Samruk Kazyna Alik Aidarbayev and the governor of the Kyzylorda region Krymbek Kusherbayev have laid the first capsule of the mining and processing works at the Shalkiya deposits.

The plant is expected to produce 4 million tons of ore per year.

Preparation to the construction started in May 2016. The cost of the project is $650 million. It will provide 1 thousand jobs during construction and 1.5 thousand jobs when the plant is created.

Shalkiya is the fifth largest zinc-lead deposits in the world with the proven reserves of 6.5 million tons of zinc. (Ukrainian metal)
