The Yakutia republic’s Prosecutor’s Office has suspended a license of the gold producer Nordgold for production of gold near the Rederga River in the republic, the authority said in a statement on October 15.

The prosecutors discovered that the company produced gold near the river without primary geological documents, and specialists of the Aldansky district’s forestry department discovered illegal deforestation of 48 trees that inflicted 72,000 rubles of damage to the district’s forest fund. The authorities also discovered violations of regulations for water resource protection at the production site of Nordgold.

A laboratory of the republic’s Environment Ministry earlier discovered contamination of the Rederga River with oil products and metals, and analysis confirmed that the production site of Nordgold contaminated the river. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
