The decrease of the coal price to 1800 UAH per ton, as suggested by the draft law 8626, will result in mines shutting down and will simply destroy the coal industry.
According to the Independent Miners’ Union chairman Mikhail Volynets, the connection of the Ukrainian coal price to the international indexes through the Rotterdam+ gave additional funds to local miners.
“Today the price at state mines is 2535 UAH per ton. In Rotterdam the price is 2800 UAH. And we still remember, when in 2014-2015 there was no state support of coalmines, and the coal was bought at 800 UAH. The prices started growing on April 1, 2016. This gave mines some 7.5 billion UAH”, he said.
Now the salary debts to state miners are at 815 million UAH. Without the Rotterdam+ they would have been 8.5 billion UAH.
Volynets says he is surprised by the initiative of the parliament members to decrease coal price. (Ukrainian metal)
