Kyrgyzstan: government discusses state of affairs at Kumtor mine

The First Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Boronov met with the President of Kumtor Gold Company, Daniel Desjardins, the Information Support Department of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The parties discussed issues of the planned and production performance of Kumtor mine until the end of 2018. The First Vice Prime Minister noted that in 2017 the enterprise produced 17.5 tons of gold, and by the end of 2018 it was planned to have produced about 15 tons.

“The actual difference will be about 2.5 tons. This will affect the financial and economic state of both Kumtor mine and the state budget,” Kubatbek Boronov said.

Daniel Desjardins said that the ore extraction plan had been fulfilled two months ahead of schedule.

“This will increase the planned production of gold in the third and fourth quarters. In 2018 Kumtor Gold Company planned to produce 14.9 tons of gold. However, by the end of the year, the volume of production will be higher,” Daniel Desjardins said.

Following the meeting, Kubatbek Boronov stressed that the work at Kumtor mine should be carried out in compliance with the environmental and technical safety standards. (24.kg/Ukrainian metal)
