Kyrgyzstan: government drawing up new agreement on Kumtor

The Government of Kyrgyzstan draws up a new agreement on Kumtor, the Speaker of the Parliament Dastan Dzhumabekov told the press conference on the results of the 4th session of the Parliament.

According to him, the government intends to revise the agreement with Centerra Gold, signed in autumn 2017 by the Cabinet of Ministers of Sapar Isakov.

“As far as I know, the Cabinet prepares a new agreement. I am sure that the interests of the state and the people will be protected. In addition, the agreement will increase the amount of environmental payments,” the Speaker said.

Earlier parliament members criticized Sapar Isakov for the new agreement with Centerra Gold. In their opinion, the government did not protect the interests of Kyrgyzstan and concluded it without the approval of the Parliament. The majority of experts positively assessed the new agreement with the Canadian investors. (24.kg/Ukrainian metal)
