Major reconstruction of production facilities in 2018-2022 makes it possible for PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih to significantly reduce environmental footprint. During last 12 years, from 2006 to 2017, 5.6 billion UAH was invested in environment, which makes 12% of total investments in this period.

In May a complex of new coke oven batteries Nos. 5 and 6 was put into operation. It enables the company to reduce emissions by 1600 tons per year.

Another big investment project to be implemented this year is reconstruction of LFCC with installation of CCMs Nos. 2 and 3, which will reduce emissions from rolling shops by 10% per ton of billets. It can be achieved by skipping blooming processing.

PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih is also underway to BOF Shop reconstruction that includes construction of new efficient GCPs. For 2019-2021 the repairs of BOF Nos. 1, 2 and 3 are planned (modernization of BOF Nos. 4, 5 and 6 was completed in 2017).

A new Sinter Plant, the construction of which is scheduled for the next several years, will give the most significant environmental benefit. ArcelorMittal Group obtained funding from European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to implement projects on environment and energy efficiency in Kriviy Rih with total amount of $350 million.

With replacement of obsolete equipment and implementation of the newest technologies in each investment project, the biggest mining and steelmaking company of Ukraine gradually reduces environmental footprint. In 2007-2017 PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih reduced emissions by 37.3%, discharges to water – by 73%, and waste disposal – by 43.5%. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
