PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih has been awarded with a certificate for implementation of the best energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies that reduce the negative impact on environment. The company got the winner’s certificate during interregional conference, called Green Solutions of Business – Uniting for Sustainable Development, which took place in Dnepr.
The Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, the German Society for International Cooperation GIZ, the regional employers’ organization and the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Investment Agency organized the conference. The conference was held as part of the program to promote the “green” modernization of the Ukrainian economy. The Green Solutions project is implemented in Ukraine with the support of German government and intended to popularize the ideas of green economic development, create conditions for implementation of modern and eco-friendly production types.
Furthermore, PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih also received a special award – “Best Practice of Alternative Fuel implementation”.
Last year PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih used the new technology in lime production, which had no analogue in Ukraine, – partial substitution of natural gas for biofuel. This technology allows saving about 3 million cubic meters of gas per month. Sunflower seed husk, ground to dust, is used as an alternative to gas. In such a way 2.2 tons of ground husk substitute 1 thousand cubic meters of natural gas.
Moreover, since the time of company privatization, PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih has reduced the consumption of natural gas 2-fold. During this period, company has increased the usage of pulverized coal fuel, having built a complex for its preparation and injection. It is planned to keep reducing the natural gas consumption by commissioning two new continuous casting machines, raw material pre-heating on lime rotary kilns, and reconstruction of two light-section mills.
In early December 2017 PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih hosted a meeting of the Green Business Leaders Club with the participation of Wolfgang Messinger, the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany. The club unites scientific organizations, large industrial and agricultural companies of the Dnipropetrovsk region, which implement innovative projects.
