Kyrgyzstan: Embassy of China asking to protect investors from local population in Toguz-Toro

In connection with the situation at the Kyrgyz-Chinese gold mining enterprise GL Makmal Developing, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kyrgyzstan and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Osh appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic to conduct an impartial investigation.

According to the company management, the diplomatic mission intends to monitor the investigation and asks to protect Chinese investors.

The police opened a criminal case on the riots in Toguz-Toro district, where the Chinese company’s property was set on fire. It is specified that the case has been opened under Articles “Hooliganism”, “Deliberate destruction or damage of someone’s property by arson” and “Mass riots” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The situation at the enterprise is stable at the time, the employees started working and calculating the damage. The company noted that they would demand compensation from both the government and the local authorities. The company stressed that expensive equipment for $5 million had been burned down.
