Rusal has started mining for bauxites at the Verkhne-Schugorsky deposits in the Republic of Komi.

The balance reserves of the new deposits total 65 million tons of ore, enough for 20 years of development.

In mid-March the Vezhayu-Vorykvinskoye deposits yielded the 40-millionth ton of bauxites, and the reserves are quickly depleting. Hence, the opening of the new deposits.

Investments in the project in 2016-2017 totaled 3 billion rubles.

Both deposits are parts of Bauxite of Timan, the only enterprise in Russia to open-mine bauxites.

The company was created in 1992. (Ukrainian metal)
